S.T.R.I.K.E stands for:
Striking:
I bet you didn’t see that one coming… Striking is a vital component to any effective self defence system, but traditional martial arts strikes come in all different shapes and sizes to all manner of atemi points (or striking points) and can be really confusing. By taking the simplest and easiest to remember under pressure striking techniques and mastering them, you will already have a devastating set of techniques that can put any violent attacker down quickly, with minimal effort and maximum impact.
Tactics and awareness:
Awareness can save your life without having to get into a confrontation in the first place and is the single most important skill that you can learn for self protection. By being aware you can keep yourself away from harm instead of asking to be a victim. Your mind is your most dangerous weapon. If you can learn to remain calm under pressure you can break an attacker down without having to throw a punch, or attack tactically to give yourself the advantage. You also need to be able to identify hidden dangers, such as hidden assailants and weapons, and what to do if you find yourself in an extremely dangerous situation.
Restraint and Control
There are going to be times when hitting someone isn’t really the best option, sometimes you just need to calm someone down or hold them back. Traditionally there are thousands of techniques designed to control or restrain a person, but I’ve taken some of the simplest and easiest to apply for maximum effect that leave you in total control of the situation, regardless of size, strength or fitness. Interception and prevention Sometimes it’s better to strike first as a distraction to give yourself a chance to get away, but it’s always best to try and prevent the situation from getting to that point in the first place. S.T.R.I.K.E teaches you how to de-escalate a situation where possible, but it also teaches you to intercept and stop their attack before it even happens.
Kinetics and manipulation
The human body works via the principles of mechanics and leverage and as such, we can use this leverage against it. By learning to manipulate leverage, strength and size can be taken out of the equation. I once saw a seven year old girl bring an 18 stone man to his knees with his little finger. I’m not saying this could happen in a real fight situation, but the principle is underlying- use the leverage to take your opponent’s strength away.
Escape
Escape is the core principle of the S.T.R.I.K.E system. We don’t want to be hanging around waiting for something to kick off, we want to be out of their so that we can go home to our families. We teach you the most effective means of getting out of a situation as quickly as possible without harm, after all, that’s what this whole thing is really about. We also teach you a variety of escapes from various holds and grabs that you could find yourself in.
So, who is S.T.R.I.K.E aimed at?
The simple answer is everyone! The system has been designed to cater for all abilities and all fitness levels. You don’t need to have any prior martial arts experience to learn the system, in fact it’s probably an advantage if you don’t, because you won’t have any pre-programmed responses! The syllabus has been specifically designed to be easy to learn and easy to apply, but there is a small catch. In order to master the techniques so that they become a natural response, you will need to practice them!
The syllabus covers:
- Striking techniques and pad work
- Developing awareness
- Escapes from grabs and holds
- The art of improvised weaponry
- Dealing with confrontation and post confrontation
- Pre-emptive striking
- Anti rape techniques
- An introduction to dealing with multiple assailants
- An introduction to knives
And much more!
